Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) Boundaries
There are about 3,000 conservation districts in the United States, each one
working locally to conserve natural resources. The Natural Resources
Conservation Service partners
with the National Association of Conservation
Districts (NACD), which is the national organization for
3,000 local
conservation districts across the country.
Developing spatial data to
assist in strategic planning and for use in GIS is an essential step in
continuing the conservation work locally. The SWCD
layer was created from a variety of sources from each state and aggregated into
a standard national layer for use in strategic planning and accountability. FGDC compliant metadata
are included.
NCGC intents to make the SWCD data layer available through the Data Gateway in the near future.
